Gay marriage, loneliness, publicity, and John Berger

Applying the late, great critic John Berger’s insights about publicity to the 21st century and how the new flood of gay wedding images relates to his ideas about glamour, envy, and the elusive other life promised by whatever transformation is being sold. Today, we are increasingly individual publicity agents and consumers of the dream for an industry we don’t necessarily profit from ourselves and an institution that isn’t right for many of us.
